BU Linux 4.0 (Bossanova) had a program called Synaptic — a nice graphical tool for adding and removing software packages. Unfortunately, this program relies on the APT package management tools as a backend, and for technical reasons, BU Linux 4.5 (Velouria) and beyond have switched from APT to Yum.

This means we are currently without a graphical tool for adding and removing programs. However, don't panic — the yum command-line tool is actually quite easy to use. (The FAQ covering the reasons for the switch also has some good tips for using yum.)

We are tracking development of several programs which act as graphical Yum frontends, because even though the command line is easy, a GUI would provide a nice way to browse and manage available and installed software. As soon as we feel we have a solid solution, we'll add it to the updates and make a special announcement.
